LAKE JUALBUP SHENTON PARK

Lake Jualbup is a beautiful leafy recreational area with water most of the year, hosting a variety of birdlife and turtles in Shenton Park. It was a favourite gathering place for the Noongar people, meaning ‘waterhole that rises in Spring’.

The City of Subiaco engaged NBP to design and construct a new nature playground here, suited to children aged between 2 and 8 years. Sitting under a giant fig tree, the design features a double swing with toddler seat, monkey bars and a climbing deck with slide.

A character post featuring textures and sound, carved top logs and timber carvings create a sensory experience and promote freedom of discovery for younger children.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
