WEBBER RESERVE NATURE PLAYGROUND

The original nature playground at Webber Reserve was first constructed by NBP in 2014 for the Friends of Webber Reserve, with funding provided by Alinta energy and the Robin Hood project. The City of Melville recently engaged NBP to reimagine the space, incorporating new and unique nature play elements while integrating repurposed materials from the original project.
At the heart of the sandpit area stands a timber giant, encased in tall timbers and featuring a slide and firepole. Adjacent to this, low-height balance logs provide younger children with opportunity to develop their climbing and balancing skills. A sand table and a carved bowl log promote sensory and exploratory play, while speaking pipes from the original installation have been retained to enhance interactive experiences.
Beside the sandpit, a soft-fall area features a balancing nest constructed with irregular timbers and thick wharf rope, along with boulders, logs, and stepping elements. A stick cubby with loose parts encourages children to collaborate in building their own creations.
A hand built NBP hammock sits to the side of the playground, in addition to custom bench seating crafted from repurposed timber and steel salvaged from the old sporting nets donated by the City of Melville.
A new pathway runs through the play space, ensuring accessibility for all visitors. This path will eventually connect to a soft-fall section featuring a basket swing and a whirly-go-round, to be installed by the council at a later date.
Future plans by City of Melville include the development of an urban forest, further enhancing the area as a natural retreat for the entire community to enjoy.
Select timbers in this project were kindly donated by our Arborist friends at Urban Forest Care.
