KENSINGTON PRE PRIMARY NATURE PLAY

Kensington Primary School commissioned NBP to redesign the pre primary playground, creating a series of spaces with diverse imaginative play opportunities that encourage children to settle into play.

The existing amphitheatre was mounded and encircled with rocks to give a more enclosed feel. Sensory elements such as log drums, sensory posts and a log abacus offer experimentation with sound, colours and textures.

A water play feature with carved log trough leads into the sandpit and a bike path encircles a large central tree.

A stick cubby has been constructed onto an existing tree, with loose parts sticks to allow the kids to assess risk and develop their teamwork skills. Overall a lovely spot with ample natural shade for the kids to enjoy.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
