CITY BEACH PS NATURE PLAYGROUND

NBP worked with City Beach PS and the P&C to design a nature play space that incorporated a log tower, a water play area and some loose parts. The finished playground features a beautiful carved timber water trough leading into a limestone water course and sandpit. The bespoke hollow log tower features a climbing wall, log clamber, lookout platform, peekaboo holes, stick roof and inner shelving. Two cubby frames with loose parts cubby building sticks encourage free creative play and risk assessment.

Some items were retained from the old space and integrated into the new such as a boat and jetty. The combination of water, sand, rocks, boat, pirate’s fort and palm tree gives the feel of an island adventure!

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
