STIRLING ARMS HOTEL

The Stirling Arms Hotel in Perth’s historic Guildford features a bespoke natural outdoor play and dining space tailored to families. At the centre of the area is a thoughtfully designed nature playscape, surrounded by seating.

A striking timber entryway welcomes visitors into “Percy’s Playground,” leading to a custom-built timber fort complete with a tunnel entrance, stick ladder, shop window, timber ramp, and slide. The play space is framed by ground logs, rocks, and timber steppers, with balancing logs incorporated to encourage movement, coordination, and challenge.

To one side, a shaded sandpit provides a quieter play zone, enhanced with sensory totems and carved log elements, offering opportunities for imaginative and sensory-rich play.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
