RIVERVALE ELC

NBP was contacted to install nature play items into the ELC by the new owners. There are 2 levels of the centre to cater for different ages of children. The upstairs area features hollow log cubbies and a classic cubby to encourage imaginative play and role play. Other elements include a sensory music wall, log abacus, log drum and fairy bridge. A timber scramble adds climbing and balancing opportunities as well as risk assessment.

The ground level area caters for toddlers, with a toddler stage, hollow log cubby and mud kitchen within a sandpit area. Timber steppers and a ‘timber creature’ provide a balancing challenge.

New trees and timber planter boxes were added throughout to complete the space.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
