Lathlain Primary asked us to design a Nature play space for their kindy area. The idea was to reinvigorate a courtyard space into a beautifully landscaped area with nature playground items and elements, providing a nature playspace suitable for kindy aged students.

Through reshaping the area with swales and mounds, and creating a mini forest of established trees, a lovely flowing landscape and play space was created. The main play elements of a Family of Trees Cubby Play area, and decked fort and slide, plus other cubby and subtle natureplay items, provide a variety of climbing, balancing, exploration and sensory elements throughout.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
