DUNE BEER CO ALBANY

Indigenous consultation with Shandell Cummings highlighted the cultural significance of Tjuitgellong, meaning “the place of the long-necked tortoise.” Swales have been designed throughout the area to symbolise the footprints of Tjuirt as it walked around the lake, complemented by timber carvings depicting the long-necked tortoise. The play area features a timber giant, speaking pipes, and a humpback climber. Locally sourced boulders and carved top logs surround a sandpit, while a sitting circle with a firepit offers a communal gathering space.
“My heart sang when I visited a local brewery in Albany – recently opened – when I saw the nature play ground. Brilliant work with so many opportunities for autonomous play and to see old trees having a new life. Also the rocks are spectacular – well done… fabulous place for big and little peoples.”
