Communicare Organisation contacted Douglas Dare and Nature Based Play to design, project manage and design nature spaces for their Family Violence Men’s Support Services Breathing Space houses.
For Calista House a Yarning Circle, with breakout sitting and reflective areas was designed and built into the outdoor area, designed in collaboration with local participants. It provides a relaxed and more informal gathering and workshopping area to be utilised by staff and participants alike.
Yarning circles are historically practiced amongst Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders – playing a key role in building respectful relationships, trust and enhancing forms of interaction.
