BECKENHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL

Beckenham Primary School’s early learning playground was reimagined into a much more natural play space with a multitude of open ended play opportunities. Creative play features include a fairy bridge, carved top logs and cubby frame with moveable cubby sticks.

The lines in the space were softened by removing some of the straight borders and replacing with curved rope and bespoke feature logs. New trees were added to complement existing mature trees and eventually surround the entire area.

Sensory items are dotted throughout such as a Wandoo music totem, talking pipes and abacus log. A stump rope walk offers a balancing or swinging challenge for all ages.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
