ST DENIS PS STAGE 2

A second stage of play is complete at St Denis school, ready for a hoard of nature players to make it their own. The children were excited for the opportunity to hide in the cubby and also to build their own with loose parts sticks and branches.

Cubbies provide an opportunity for role play and social interaction in addition to offering a practical challenge. Children gain a sense of achievement in being effective in their everyday actions, which links to resilience and self confidence.

Other features include a mini monkey climber, arched timber arbour, log abacus, rocks, steppers and new plants.

Timber is selected for it’s natural twists and bends, breaking up straight lines and mirroring nature in its purest form.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
