SOUTH LAKE PS YARNING CIRCLE

While completing a larger project for the school the Principal asked if we could do something to create a more beautiful, functional space in an under-utilised central pocket of the school.
We installed a small yarning circle with detailed carvings by our own staff Timber Artist Mac Kelsh.

Yarning Circles have been used for centuries by Aboriginal people to provide a respectful place to be heard and to respond.

The resulting space has since been enjoyed and become a favourite for teachers, students and parents.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
