RIVERTON PS STAGE 3&4

Riverton PS had previously engaged NBP to design and construct Stages 1 & 2 of a nature playground for their school. This area was highly utilised and loved by the children and was in need of expansion.

Stages 3 & 4 were completed in Dec 2021, to create a truly engaging space for the children to explore and enjoy.

The plan incorporated a natural Adventure Loop pathway, incorporating ground logs, rocks, steppers, a rope walk and balance nests. Recycled wharf rope was used to create a sturdy tug of war game.

The design includes a yarning circle where stories and knowledge can be shared in a safe environment. A music circle, with log drum and sensory totem offers a sensory experience to support holistic play.

Several cubby spaces and cubby building areas with loose parts encourage imaginative and physical play to learn, risk-take and self-regulate.

The finished product has revitalised the play space and provided new challenges while supporting the children’s development.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
