FRESHWATER BAY PRIMARY SCHOOL NATURE PLAYGROUND STAGE 1

Location: Bay View Terrace, Claremont, WA

Commissioned: Design and Construct; Community Participation

Nature Play Elements: Cubby areas, rope play, balancing logs, tyres and rope, climbing logs, large feature logs, water play rock features, steppers.

Description: NBP was asked by Freshwater Bay Primary to design and construct a Nature Playground for their school. The school had a large area of paving that was hot in summer and of little play value. The school community took up all the pavers and re-used them elsewhere in the school. The old paved area is now a flourishing nature play experience area, complete with a wide range of handcrafted Nature Based Play elements and features.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
